All About Ms. Olsen

Ms. Kendall Olsen

Hi! My name is Ms. Kendall Olsen and I'm the Library Media Specialist at the Givens Library and Launch Lab. This is my 26th year in education and 2023-2024th year in the Webster Groves School District. Before I became a Library Media Specialist, I was a classroom teacher for ten years in the areas of non-departmentalized sixth grade, ELA and social studies. My son is recent graduate of the Webster Groves School District. Go Statesmen!

Additionally, I have participated in WGSD's social justice cohort program through Educational Equity Consultants (2006), eMints Certification (2008) and Witnessing Whiteness training through the YWCA (2018). Workshops attended in 2017-2018 include STEAM V with HEC TV, Design Thinking through Connected ED, National Youth Service Learning Conference, Midwest Educational Technology Conference, Code.Org, Connected Ed's Raspberry Pi Academy, PBL Training through the Buck Institute for Education and Teaching Tolerance. Additionally, I am a volunteer facilitator for Witnessing Whiteness cohorts for adults in STL through the YWCA.

Share something no one knows about you: I have a legit butterfly phobia! The kids get a big kick out of knowing this.

Family: I am the proud mom of a newly blended family. In addition to my own son, I have recently gained a daughter, a son, and a husband. As a result, I have two juniors--one at WGHS and one at KHS. Turkey Day is always fun at our house!

What I am looking forward to: I am looking forward to the opportunity to truly be a part of the community we serve.

A quote I like: "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -Yeats
